Nathalie Holden is fundraising for ME Research UK
My Story
I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon in support of ME Research UK, a cause that's very personal to me. My partner developed myalgic encephalomyelitis (M.E) triggered by Covid in 2020. The disease has had a significant impact on us and affects every part of my partner's life.
Sadly, there's a lack of awareness about this chronic disease, limited treatments and support, and a daily struggle to do basic things many people take for granted.
More than 400,000 people in the UK are affected by M.E — a complex neurological disease which affects multiple body systems. One in four people with M.E. is "severe": housebound or bed-bound, and those of who are not live in fear of deteriorating to this point. M.E. is still misunderstood, in many cases not properly recognised, and is chronically underfunded.
By running for the charity, I can make a small difference through supporting biomedical research for treatments and awareness raising.
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to consider running the Cardiff Half Marathon this year — something my partner is unable to do. If you’re able to support, thank you.
nd Long COVID will have access to compassionate and effective care.
